Curate...
The Rev. Fr. James Fraser IV
The Rev. Fr. James Fraser IV comes to St. John’s from the great state of Maryland where he was born into an Anglican family. Like many priests, he grew up close to the altar, serving God as an acolyte through his high school years. In college he majored in Religion which he put to good use afterward teaching In-Car Drivers’ Ed. Over the years, he was experiencing a call to the holy catholic priesthood, to which he finally submitted in 2003.
Fr. Fraser prepared for ordination at both Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin, and the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC. While at the Pontifical Faculty, Fr. Fraser, then a deacon, served at St. Luke’s Parish in Bladensburg, Maryland, where, among other things, he erected a gothic-styled high altar reredos (see photo).
Then, in October 2007, at the suggestion of the Rt. Rev. Keith L. Ackerman, SSC, VIII Bishop of the Diocese of Quincy, Fr. Fraser was introduced to Fr. Steven J. Kelly, SSC and St. John’s Church, Detroit. And, on January 26, 2008, the Feast of Sts. Timothy and Titus, Fr. Fraser was ordained a priest at St. John’s by the Rt. Rev. Edward MacBurney, SSC, VII Bishop of Quincy, Retired. He has been serving here and loving it ever since.
As part of his Curate duties, Fr. Fraser leads both The Alpha Course, and the St. John’s 20s/30s Group.
Fr. Fraser is married to Katie, and they were blessed with their first child, James V, on April 23, 2008. After Jesus, Mary, the Church, and his family, Fr. Fraser’s loves are wood-working, house renovations, road-biking (no, seriously), weight-lifting, golf, reading, and Latin.
